岡山市立御野小学校「中庭の太陽」
1996年、岡山市立御野小学校は創立百周年を迎えた。それに伴「アートワークみの」と銘打ち、夏休みの学校を利用した大々的なアートイベントや音楽祭を開催。現代美術の作家と地元住民との協力を根幹に「生きた学校」を利用しての催しは全国的な話題となる。その締めくくりとして記念碑の建造が計画され、地元特産「万成石」を用いた遊具を提案。
陽の射し込みにくい中庭という空間に、太陽をモチーフにした「登り石」「石の滑り台」「くぐり石」腰掛け兼用「飛び石」等をデザイン。
子供たちが賑やかに遊ぶその空気感を、太陽の光の降り注ぐイメージと結びつけた。
PTAや地元の大学生、また地域の協力を得て完成。
日頃は余り人気のない中庭が子供たちの遊びの拠点となった。

Mino municipal primary school –Sun in the courtyard

On the 1996, Mino municipal primary school of Okayama City celebrated its hundredth anniversary. During the summer vacation of the year, the school was opened to the public for a cultural event “Art Work Mino”, where many art-related events and music festival were held. The event was appreciated for its core concept -making use of the actually functioning school on the basis of the cooperation between local people and artists- was talked about widely in Japan and appreciated much. To commemorate the event, the committee planned to make a memorial statue and we, aokoubou instead proposed to make a playground equipment, using locally produced Mannari Stone.
In the shady courtyard, we designed to set a “Climbing Stone” taking the sun as a motif, “Slide Stone”, “Passing through Stone” and “Stepping Stone” which can be also used as bench.
We could realize the project thanks of many volunteers. And the courtyard, which had been somewhat abandoned, changed into the base of play for children, the true Suns for us.
