奈義中学校記念庭園「ダイスき奈義」
奈義中学校は、戦後創立以来、町で唯一の中学校として多くの同窓生を送り出して来た。5年前に創立50周年を迎えていたが、校庭の拡張やテニスコートの新設、体育館の建て替え工事など多くの事業を同時に行っていたため、総合的な設備は2001年の完成を見込んでいた。最終的な記念行事として、校舎の改修に伴い校友会が記念庭園を贈呈する運びとなり、彫刻を中心とした活用性のある空間を企画。
完成後、町内数カ所に庭の名前を募集するサイコロBOXを設置。
県外からの投票も含め、百票以上の応募があった。
インターロッキングのデザインを含め、校舎正面の景観を設備。石敷きの面は、大きなサイコロの1の目。校舎側からスムーズに下りられるスロープ。
インターロッキングを挟んだ前庭にはテニスコートがあるのでサイコロは生徒たちのベンチ代わりにもなっている。

Nagi town lower secondary school – “Daisu-ki Nagi”*

Since its foundation after the World War Second, the school had been sent out many graduates into the world as an only lower secondary school in the town. It celebrated its fifties anniversary in 1996 and commenced a renovation program, aiming at the completion in 2001, including the enlargement of the playground, setting of a tennis court and renovation of the gym in parallel. To commemorate the whole renovation, the alumni association decided to offer a memorial garden to the school. Accordingly, we aokoubou designed a practical space-garden with a sculpture.
After the completion of the work, we put boxes at some sites in the town to call the name of the garden. There were more than one hundred votes, including the ones from the outside of the town.
We arranged the front view of the main building of the school: the sculpture is made with interlocking design, stone plates form a big pip of one of a dice, the slope gently curves and invites students smoothly from the main building.
There is a tennis court in front of the space-garden, so, students sometimes come to sit, take rest and watch the match.
*In Japanese, ‘Dai’ means ‘much’, ‘suki’ means ‘like’. So this title is a word-game that works between ‘I love Nagi’ and ‘Dice of Nagi’.
