直島家プロジェクト:ベネッセ
2006年10月7日より開催される、「NAOSHIMA STANDARD 2」展の関連事業で、あらたな家プロジェクトが3件追加された。
「石橋邸」、「碁会所」、「はいしゃ」。それらの物件において、庭の制作に関わった。
「石橋邸」(千住博:「WATER FALL」展示)
およそ120年前に建てられた、塩問屋「石橋邸」。現代の名職人達の手により、新しい空間によみがえった。
家屋内の石畳、板石が整然と中庭へと繋がる。
座敷には、千住博氏の新作が展示される。
背後の倉には、名作「WATER FALL」が掛かる。そこから溢れる流れを渡る「井戸」。井戸は豊島石(既存)。
100平米を越える主庭には、万成石の古材以外の造形物はない。
「碁会所」(須田悦弘「五色椿」展示)
本村地区のメインストリート、内藤礼作「きんざ」の隣に位置する。
古建築の工法をそのままに、現代の名工が造り上げた。
外構を回る石は、北木島産の錆石。現在では採石していない貴重なもの。
板石も同様に北木島産出の錆石。濡れると綺麗な茶色に変貌する。
庭は、砂利で被われる。この庭も雨に濡れると薄い茶色に景色を変える。冬には「五色椿」が簡素な庭を彩る。
建物の障子の中、四畳半の室内に須田氏の木彫が配置される。(隣は「きんざ」)
井戸筒は、古色の乗った「合せ井戸」を配置。この庭唯一の造形物。
Gardens for “The Art House Project” of Benesse Art Site Naoshima
Three new projects were added to “The Art House Project” of Benesse Art Site Naoshima as a part of the exhibition “NAOSHIMA STANDARD 2” which began on the 7th October 2006. Aokoubou realized three gardens, one for each Ishibashi (Paintings by Hiroshi Senju), Gokaisyo (Installation by Yoshihiro Suda) and Haisya (Works by Shinro Ohtake).
Ishibashi
A building of one hundred years old, Ishibashi-Tei (Ishibashi means stone bridge, Tei means house in Japanese), the house of wholesale merchant of salt was renovated by wonderful hand of contemporary craftsmen.
The stone pavements and plates run in good order from the inside of the house to the courtyard. The backroom holds a painting (Fusuma-e) “The Fall” by Hiroshi Senju. The pebbles evoke water flow from the painting, and a well, made by Teshima stone (Teshima is an island nearby from Naoshima), floats in the space.
In the main garden of more than 100 square meters, there is nothing but a mass of old Mannari stone.
Gokaisyo
It is newly built, next to Kinza made by Rei Naito, on the main street of Honmura area by skill-full contemporary craftsmen employing the methods of traditional architectural techniques.
The stones surrounding the outside gutter of the house are the precious ones from Kitaki-islnad, which are no more quarried today. The stone plate is also from the same island, which turns its color from a gray into a beautiful brown with the rain.
The ground of the garden is fully covered by stone pebbles. It also turns its color with the rain, into a light brown. And in the winter, ‘Five colors camellia’ adds grace to this simple garden.
The work of Yoshihiro Suda is put behind paper screens – syo-ji, in the space of around 8 square meters. A beautifully worn out ‘Awase-Ido’ (Awase means to combine, Ido means a well in Japanese) is arranged as an only one object in the garden.
