Title: Repose
On the place where I’m standing now, there was a person standing, living like me.
He/She should have worked and given birth, he/she was here, really.
Minds cross each other, having waited for a moment of encounter, in a great continuous circle of a Time.
We receive same breeze, catch a smell of grass.
Rice plants waver. Life is given birth then disappears as a dew drop.
After fifteen hundreds years of absence, I, -an existence-, am now here.
Material: stone, plant, video, burnt plywood
Black wall
It is a symbol that separates Time and Space.
Passing through the small entrance-nijiri guchi-, one’s body and mind go across the time of fifteen hundreds of years
Rice plant
It was brought from the continent fifty hundreds years ago at Jomon period. Since then, people here cultivate it continuously.
On the 6th century when this tomb was made, an irrigation system that realized efficient rice cultivation had been already arranged.
The strong connection between our ancestors and us, who have incessantly worked here, sharing a place called Akaiwa.
Simultaneity of the two presences: rice plant as a symbol of life, and the stone room as a place of the end of a life.
Life and Death.
The whole life and its loop.
Singing of birds
Standing on the place, one becomes aware of synchronicity of birds of fifteen hundreds years ago and the ones which are singing now here surrounding the place.
Change of time and a phenomenon that does not change, so are we.
